Life, Loss

Behind the Name: Berea Dannielle

Behind the Name Berea Dannielle

When we finally confirmed that I was pregnant at 5 weeks, one of the first things I asked God for was the name He wants us to give our baby. We wanted our baby’s name to declare a certain character or purpose in life.

Berea

During one of the nights I was asking God for a name, “Berea” crossed my mind. Even as a young Christian, I’ve always looked up to the Bereans, but I’ve never had them in mind recently. I recall I even prayed to be like them—to always go back to Scripture.

“Now the Berean Jews were of
more noble character than those in Thessalonica,
for they received the message with great eagerness
and examined the Scriptures every day
to see if what Paul said was true.”
Acts 17:11 NIV

“Bereans. Berea. Brei.” That’s what I heard. Yup, a girl’s name, with a nickname! I actually didn’t share this with Pao before we confirmed the gender! And our prayer— may she never depart from God’s word.

Dannielle

I asked God for a second name, for so many nights more than the first name, but nothing came. One day while Pao was at work, he messaged me, “What about Daniel? He’s a survivor.” We’ve been going through some challenges in the pregnancy as early as that week 5 ultrasound. With all of that, one of the things we’ve been declaring about Brei is that she’s a fighter. After Pao’s message, I read the book of Daniel and we agreed that everything about Daniel, we wanted for Brei! Of course, because Brei is a girl, we named her “Dannielle”.

All about Daniel that we want for our Berea Dannielle:

  • She is ten times better than others because she always stands up for what is right
  • Strong, healthy, good-looking
  • Gifted with knowledge and good judgment
  • Suited to serve in the royal palace
  • Unusual aptitude for understanding every aspect of literature and wisdom
  • Special ability to interpret visions and dreams
  • Handles situations with wisdom and discretion
  • Faithful, always responsible, and completely trustworthy
  • Very precious to God

This is our faith, and with God to co-parent with us, we pray that she will grow to be the woman that God has created her to be. 🙂

If you will have a/another daughter, what name will you give her?
