Embrace Your Pace

Embrace Your Pace

Over the past year, I’ve spoken to people sharing similar experiences—dragging themselves through their work, day, or week. When I tell them that I also feel that sometimes (more frequently the past months) and that other people go through that too, it helps them to know that they’re actually “normal.” Yes, even when you know you’re where you’re supposed to be, you can still have these days.

“What is one verse or quote that has been resounding in your mind and heart recently?” Answering this second question from my recent journal prompts.

Embrace your pace.

We cannot and should not force strollers to run, and in the same way, we cannot and should not force runners to stroll.

When God Could’ve but He Didn’t

The first time I wrote about embracing your pace was when we lost our firstborn. With grief, there are days when you feel like your healing and progress is like strolling, sometimes it’s like you’re running, while sometimes it’s like there’s no progress at all. Some days it can feel like you’re also regressing. But what I learned in that season is that it’s normal to have a different pace from others, and that it’s normal to have a different pace for yourself each day. Taking it one day at a time is key, and embracing whatever pace you find yourself in for that day.

Taking this back to our current reality with the pandemic, you can wake up one day so pumped up to go through a full week, then the next time you wake up you just want to keep staying in bed and end up dragging yourself through the day. If you feel like you’re climbing through the week, this post may help.

Embrace your pace and know that there is grace that is sufficient for you, whatever pace you find yourself in today. Whether your pace goes faster or slower, the grace of God never runs out for whatever you need for the day. Tomorrow is another day with fresh, new grace. We only run out if we stop connecting with God who is our ultimate source. God’s grace is always sufficient, in fact, more than enough.

“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.”

Isaiah‬ ‭43:2‬ ‭NIV‬‬
