Noah was pulling my arm to go to our room to sleep. He still nurses himself to sleep, and there are times when he asks for milk in the middle of the night. At 8 weeks old he started sleeping through the night, from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. like clockwork! Somewhere around four to six months old, he started asking for milk mid of the night and that has often been the case until now (he is two years and four months old and I have gotten used to it).
Yesterday mid of the night he would wake up and ask for milk, and I was telling him no milk until Mr. Sun is out. He cried a lot to sleep. It was probably three cycles of that. It’s something I try once in a while to see where he is in his feeding journey. It’s been so long since I last tried that. In embracing fully the present and mostly because it takes more energy to not give him milk, I didn’t mind anymore that I often don’t get a straight 8-hour sleep. I just knew that when Noah’s old enough, I can talk him out of it. But I never thought he’ll be old enough tonight.
Tonight, before he slept, I was telling him that it’s the last time he’ll drink milk and the next time will be when Mr. Sun is out. He said, “okay, Mommy.” Hoping he understood a little bit that we won’t have to go through last night again, we went into our usual position so I can nurse him to sleep. But he did not suck. He pulled down my shirt and closed his eyes. He slept!
When I’m not with him and Pao, he would sleep without asking for milk. Tonight was the first night since he came out of me that he was beside me and he slept without nursing!!!
I am just blown away by how this little dude just listened, said okay, and slept.
